8th Grade Confirmation at Rosary Cathedral

Hey! Do you wanna know how 8th grades confirmation went? Well, we have all the information you need! Confirmation is the preparing to celebrate the second sacrament of Initiation. This time in preparation gives you the opportunity to look carefully at the direction of your life. Catholic 8th graders had Confirmation on May 10, 2014. It was from 11:00-12:30 at the Rosary Cathedral. All of the 8th graders had to work for a certain amount of hours (40 hours all together) for their community, parish, and school in order to be confirmed. Then, they had to write a letter to the Father Chris asking to be confirmed. They had to find a sponsor from one of their extended family members or a practicing Catholic and they also had to be 18 years old or older (Uncle, Grandpa, Grandma, Cousin). The amount of people confirmed were 26 counting CCD kids. The 8th Graders and CCD went to a retreat for Confirmation to learn the steps of Confirmation. The 8th graders had to come up with a Confirmation name from a Saint they respect the most. They were confirmed by walking up to the bishop with their sponsor, while the bishop anoints oil onto the persons head. You come before the bishop with your sponsor, and your sponsor places his or her hands on your right shoulder. You or your sponsor tells the bishop your confirmation name, then the bishop confirms you by anointing you with chrism, done by the laying on of the hand, and with words, the 8th grade name was said then the bishop says: “be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit”, then you respond: “Amen”. Then the bishop ended the mass after all the 8th graders and CCD been confirmed, by blessing the people with the sign of the cross made with his hands.

Memorial Day was on May 26, 2014! On Memorial Day we don’t have school because that’s where we remember all the service members. May 30, 2014 is the Regina Coeli Dance for the sixth through eighth graders. It’s the last dance of the 2013-2014 school year. Our last day of school is June 4, 2014.
